Dream Theater est un groupe de metal progressif américain, formé par trois étudiants de l'école de musique de Berklee en 1985. Depuis leurs débuts, ils sont devenus l’un des groupes les plus influents du genre, et celui ayant eu le plus grand succès commercial (en particulier avec leur disque d'or Images and Words). Le groupe est reconnu pour le travail et le haut niveau technique de chaque instrumentiste, ce qui lui a valu le respect de - et plusieurs collaborations avec des- grands noms du rock et du metal, parmi lesquels : Deep Purple, In Flames, Iron Maiden, Joe Satriani, Megadeth, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Opeth, Steve Vai et Yes, pour ne citer que les plus célèbres.
